Obstetricians often advise women about pregnancy habits that can optimize their health and the health of the fetus, as well as help women stay safe throughout the nine months of pregnancy. Below are some useful pregnancy tips for women: 1. Take prenatal vitamins. Women should begin taking prenatal vitamins whenever there is a possibility of becoming pregnant. The baby’s neural cord, which later becomes the brain and spinal cord, begins to develop within the first month of pregnancy. Therefore, essential nutrients such as calcium, folic acid, and iron are needed starting in early pregnancy. Women should also eat foods like spinach, kidney beans, and broccoli, which are rich in folic acid, and milk and yogurt, which are rich in calcium. 2. Eat a healthy diet. Pregnancy is not a time to "eat for two", but rather increase caloric intake by 200 - 300 calorie snack per day. Pregnant women should make healthy food choices that limit juice, soda, sweets, fast food or processed food. Foods to include in a daily diet are fruits, vegetables and calcium-rich foods. 3. Exercise. Exercise can lower the risk of pregnancy complications, increase the chance of a normal vaginal delivery, and limit pregnancy weight gain.
